MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, made a Labor Day campaign stop in Milwaukee, emphasizing his union roots and praising running mate Kamala Harris’s pro-labor record.

Speaking at Laborfest, Walz highlighted his past as a dues-paying union member during his teaching career. He talked about how Republican opponents once accused him of being in labor’s pocket, to which he proudly responded, “I am the pocket.”

Walz touted the Harris-Walz ticket’s commitment to workers’ rights, fair wages, and safe working conditions. He praised Vice President Harris for her role in the “most pro-union U.S. administration in history,” citing her tie-breaking vote on the American Rescue Plan and efforts to protect workers’ pensions.

The governor contrasted their stance with that of Donald Trump, claiming the former president only knows “how to take advantage of” working people.

The event was briefly disrupted by protestors opposing the Israel-Hamas war, with security escorting some away from the stage.

Walz’s visit was impacted by a minor crash involving his motorcade, resulting in injuries to media members and campaign staff. Both Harris and President Biden reportedly called to check on those affected.
