MILWAUKEE, Wis (WAUK) — Voters in northern Milwaukee County are heading to the polls Tuesday for a special primary election to fill the 4th Senate District seat vacated by former Sen. Lena Taylor.
The race pits two Democratic state representatives, LaKeshia Myers and Dora Drake, against each other. With no other candidates in the running, the primary winner is expected to claim the seat in the July 30 special election.
The district covers much of northern Milwaukee County, excluding areas like Brown Deer, Fox Point, and Whitefish Bay.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with voters in line by closing time allowed to cast ballots. Polling locations can be found at myvote.wi.gov.
The winner will serve the remainder of Taylor’s term, which ends in 2024. Both Myers and Drake are also vying for a full four-year term in the August 13 primary and November 5 general election.
This special election maintains the district’s previous boundaries, unlike other redrawn Milwaukee-area districts.
