Celebrate Responsibly: Free Rides and Towing Services Offered to Prevent Drunk Driving on St. Patrick’s Day
Milwaukee, Wis (Civic Media) – Whether you’re in Milwaukee, or anywhere across the state, there are options for not driving drunk. The Milwaukee County Transit System is once again offering free rides for St. Patrick’s Day, in partnership with Miller Lite. Starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, rides will be fare-free on MCTS bus routes until the end of regular service for those routes. The aim is to promote safety and encourage responsible celebrations during the holiday weekend. This initiative continues a long-standing tradition of providing free rides for special occasions, with nearly 10,000 rides offered in the Milwaukee area last year.
In addition to MCTS free rides, AAA is also offering its “Tow to Go” service for St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Wisconsin and other states. From 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15, until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18, AAA will tow the vehicles of would-be impaired drivers to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. This service is free for anyone, but AAA advises treating it as a last resort. To access the service, individuals can call the phone number provided: 855-2-TOW-2-GO or 855-286-9246.
Here are some guidelines for the “Tow to Go” service from AAA:
- Available from 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15, to 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18.
- Free and open to both AAA members and non-members.
- Provides a confidential local ride for one person and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.
- Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance; the service is designed for those who did not plan ahead and need a safety net. It is always recommended to choose a designated driver before celebrating.
- In some cases, AAA may need to make alternative arrangements to ensure the safe transportation of impaired individuals.
- Please note that “Tow to Go” may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.
St. Patrick’s Day is known to have a higher incidence of impaired driving and alcohol-related crashes compared to other holidays. Some area law enforcment organizations use the holiday to perform enchanced safety efforts.
