President Biden Makes Ninth Visit to Wisconsin, Fifth to Milwaukee, to Announce $39.6 Million Infrastructure Funding
Milwaukee, Wis (Civic Media) – President Joe Biden is set to visit Milwaukee today as part of his campaign efforts. This visit is significant as it marks his ninth trip to Wisconsin since assuming office and the fifth visit specifically to Milwaukee. The purpose of his visit is to announce funding of $39,560,000 for infrastructure projects in Wisconsin, He’ll be alongside U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The White House release says the primary objective of the funding is to reconnect communities that were previously divided by transportation infrastructure, with the aim of improving access to vital services such as schools, jobs, and medical facilities.
The President will speak at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee. A campaign fundraiser will follow, with Biden staying overnight in the city. There has been increased security around the Pfister Hotel, a destination most recent presidents have stayed during their time in office.
Among the notable projects that will receive funding is the transformation of 6th Street in Milwaukee. The project is said to enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, benefiting neighborhoods like Burr Oaks and Bram’s Addition. Additionally, the National Avenue Interchange project in Walker’s Point will address safety and mobility concerns. Another project that will receive funding is the Perry Street Overpass in Madison, which aims to eliminate the need for detours around the Beltline Highway.
In addition to the infrastructure funding announcement, President Biden’s visit to Milwaukee also includes overseeing the opening of his campaign headquarters in the city. This visit comes a week after his recent State of the Union address and forms a crucial part of his strategy to generate momentum for his re-election campaign.
Overall, President Biden’s visit to Milwaukee hopes to showcase investing in infrastructure and revitalizing communities. In an update to polling since his State of the Union speech last week, the aggregator 538 shows Biden with the lowest approval ratings of his presidency. It’s currently at 38% approval. The most recent polling in Wisconsin has come from Emerson College, they have former President Trump up 3% on Biden in a head-to-head matchup.
