Cleanup Continues in Racine After Powerful Thunderstorm

RACINE, Wis. – (WRJN) – Cleanup operations are continuing this week after a powerful thunderstorm swept through Racine County last week, toppling trees, damaging property, and leaving thousands without power.

This week, City of Racine crews will continue collecting storm debris, with residents able to place tree limbs and branches in the right-of-way for pickup. The Department of Public Works has extended hours at the Pearl Street Yard Waste Drop-off, open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and at the Solid Waste Transfer Station, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What’s called ‘enhanced bulky item pickup’ will be available throughout the week, allowing people to place more than five items at the curb on their regular trash day without the usual sticker requirement. Additional bulky waste can be dropped off at the Transfer Station.

The storm, which struck Thursday evening, caused significant damage along the Lake Michigan shoreline, particularly in Wind Point and North Bay. No tornadoes were confirmed, but the National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch for the area.
