Wisconsin In Bullseye Risk For Severe Storms

MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – Hazards of hail, high winds and even tornadoes target the state on Thursday, here’s what you need to know.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk for severe weather to spread across a majority of Wisconsin on Thursday, May 15.

Some thunderstorms will start the day off, especially in northwestern areas of the state. No need to worry much with these, however they may be strong.

The heat of the day, muggy conditions and some sunshine will create the perfect mixture to fuel supercells later, those will be capable of doing some damage.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to spark midday and move into areas like La Crosse and Eau Claire. Very large hail and a few tornadoes may occur. The thunderstorms will roll eastward into central areas of the state through the afternoon.

Storms should arrive in eastern places like Milwaukee and Green Bay by early evening, likely in a line. They will bring the threat of high winds and hail.

Much needed rainfall is expected, around 0.25″ to 0.50″, with some spots picking up near 1.00″ possible. This will help lessen the wildfire risk and red flag warnings from earlier in the week.

Gather gear and put it in your selected shelter spot. You’ll want things like sturdy shoes, medicine, water, snacks, pet food, flashlight and a battery bank.
