BROOKFIELD, Wis. – (WAUK) – Millions of miles were rolled back, now three from Wisconsin face charges for allegedly rolling back odometers.  Officially, it’s theft by false representation, and allegations are that the three also altered titles in a used car scheme. That’s all according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Marvin Reed Trotter, 53, Nycole Cavins, 55, and Marvel S. Trotter, 27, all from Brookfield, are accused of buying used vehicles, manipulating odometer readings, and reselling them at higher prices through Facebook Marketplace.

Investigators found 70 vehicles with suspected odometer discrepancies, totaling an estimated 4.5 million miles removed.

“Deceptive practices like those alleged in this case are unacceptable,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. The suspects own an auto body shop in Butler and allegedly targeted vehicles needing repairs.

A preliminary hearing for Marvin Trotter and Nycole Cavins is set for April 14, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation and will be prosecuted by the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office.
