MADISON, Wis. (WAUK) — Gov. Tony Evers announced Monday that MGT of America Consulting, LLC has been selected to conduct an independent audit of Milwaukee Public Schools’ operations.

The audit comes amid financial turmoil for the district, which recently lost $16.6 million in state aid due to failure to submit required financial reports. The district’s superintendent, Keith Posley, resigned amid the financial issues.

MGT’s team includes former educators and public school professionals with experience reviewing urban school districts. The firm committed to a “strategic, student-centered approach” in making recommendations to improve central office effectiveness.

The operational audit will examine financial reporting and management, human resources processes, and strategies to improve central office efficiency.

This audit is part of a broader effort announced by Evers last month, which also includes a separate instructional audit. The instructional audit, for which a vendor has not yet been selected, will review classroom environments, professional development policies, and practices to support educators.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration will finalize a contract with MGT to begin work as soon as possible.
