Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher

In a recent visit to WFHR’s Mid-Day Magazine with James J. Malouf, Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher provided some important updates

Malouf opened the interview by asking how Mayor Zacher thought the election went in Wisconsin Rapids. Zacher, this being his first presidential election as Mayor, specifically noted the huge turnout in the area. With record early voting turnout, and some lines on voting day, this was a massive undertaking. He thanked Jenifer, the election clerk, for her years of dedication and passion for her work. Both men stated they appreciated being able to look behind the curtain at how the process works. Zacher said that he made it a point, during voting preparations and training, to speak with as many local volunteers as he could.

Joy in Leadership

 Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher always takes those opportunities to speak to citizens to help him understand how things are really going. Malouf mentioned that he asks other legislative and governing guests if they enjoy what they’re doing. He expressed the need to help younger people see value in those jobs, and want to do that work. Zacher agreed, he said it is a hard job, there’s no off time really. Then followed by saying he genuinely cares about Wisconsin Rapids and wants what is best for the community. Zacher restated his thought of choosing to lead by example.

Budget Discussions

Malouf then shifted the conversation to the city’s budget approval process this year. Mayor Zacher made it clear to thank everyone who has been balancing the city finances and doing that hard work. He discussed details regarding the traffic survey and road construction budget methods. By making it clear that they are doing their best to make things fair. Malouf then restated that there are specific subjects being discussed. Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Matt Zacher agreed that there are, noting the South Wood County Humane Society and McMillan Memorial Library. There has been an overwhelming show of support for both of these organizations from the community. Despite that there are people in elected positions who question the details of those budgets. Zacher reminded listeners that these were budgeted for during a time of growth, and today’s budget is very different.

The Importance of an Involved Community

Malouf expressed his gratitude for all the community members who have been staying up to date and are taking part in this process. He is proud of the town for having so many passionate people that are paying attention and voicing their opinions. Zacher reminded listeners that all Alderpersons were elected in and have stepped up to the job. Mayor Zacher did still encourage folks who want to weigh in on these issues to reach out to him.

Rekindle The spirit – ribbon cutting

The interview ended discussing the ribbon cutting on the bridges. The work that has been ongoing on the bridges was an installation of decorative lighting to them. Zacher sent his appreciation to those who helped to make it happen. The ribbon cutting will happen just before the Rekindle the Spirit Parade on November 27th.
