RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – The City of Racine has introduced a new pilot program offering reimbursements to homeowners and businesses for installing security camera systems. The program aims to enhance public safety by encouraging private surveillance across the city.

Homeowners within Racine’s city limits can receive a $150 reimbursement after purchasing and setting up a new security camera system at their residence. Businesses and commercial property owners are eligible for a $250 reimbursement for installing camera systems on their premises.

To qualify, applicants must complete the required application forms and ensure their property has no outstanding building code violations or tax liens. Camera systems purchased prior to application approval will not be eligible for reimbursement under this pilot program.

While the Racine Police Department will not have direct access to the video footage captured by the private cameras, property owners must grant permission for footage to be viewed during criminal investigations. Residents and businesses that already have security cameras can also register their existing systems with the police department.

The new camera reimbursement program is part of Racine’s stated efforts to modernize public safety operations and foster community involvement in maintaining a secure environment. Funding for the pilot initiative is limited, so interested participants are encouraged to apply promptly.

Complete application details and additional resources on enhancing home and business security are available on the City of Racine’s website.
