LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLCX) – The 94th Assembly District race could be a rematch between the two candidates who ran against one another in 2022.
Republican Ryan Huebsch announced his candidacy on Thursday, setting up a potential second showdown with Democrat Steve Doyle, who announced his campaign earlier this month, to represent the area generally north of La Crosse.
Doyle is seeking his seventh elected term in office. Huebsch said in his campaign announcement that Doyle’s long tenure in politics was a reason he decided to run again for office.
“This election marks the 40th year since Steve Doyle first started running for office in 1984,” Huebsch said. “It is time for the next generation to accept the challenge to step up and lead.”
Doyle said that he is running again because there is still work to do in the Assembly.
“I’m proud of the work I have done for the Coulee Region, but I’m not done yet,” Doyle said. “I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get back to work.”
In 2022, Doyle won a tight race over Huebsch under the old district boundaries, winning by 756 votes in a race in which 28,907 votes were cast.
The new district lines include northern La Crosse County and rural parts of Trempealeau County, as well as Onalaska, Holmen, and parts of La Crosse and West Salem. WisPolitics.com shows the district leaning Republican at 53.6%.
The 2024 Fall Primary is on Aug. 13, while the 2024 General Election will be held on Nov. 5.
