MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – Madison’s Equal Opportunities Commission is holding a community meeting for north and east side residents next week to discuss what they call a “surge in housing complaints in the community.” EOC leaders say the meeting will address some of the complaints, and provide residents with a platform to voice their concerns.

The meeting will feature presentations on city services that are available to Madison residents to tackle housing issues and promote equal opportunities for all residents. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their experiences, concerns, and suggestions regarding housing in Madison.

Back in December, the owner of two affordable housing complexes in Madison announced that they were selling the buildings. The Tree Lane and Rethke Terrace Apartments were built to provide housing for people who either were homeless or at the risk of homelessness. City leaders are working with the residents of those two apartments to find them a new place to live.

“We recognize the importance of addressing housing concerns within our community,” stated Linda Ketcham, Director of Just Dane, Commissioner at the Equal Opportunities Commission. “This meeting serves as an opportunity for residents to engage with city officials, learn about available resources, and actively participate in shaping a more equitable future for Madison.”

The meeting will be held at the Lakeview Public Library on N Sherman Avenue on Wednesday, March 14 at 5:30. Light beverages will be provided.
